Hants RDA Announces Shipbuilding Strategy

On September 15th the Hants Regional Development Authority in conjunction with our partners at the Enterprise Centre of Hants County (ECHCo), will host a luncheon for Windsor/Hantsport businesses and community leaders interested in learning more about the Irving Shipbuilding’s bid for the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy contract.

Halifax Shipyard is in the running to become one of two major suppliers of shipbuilding to the Canadian government as a result of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.  “No shipyard in Canada is better poised to meet this challenge and the Windsor/Hantsport region is ideally located to take advantage of this opportunity.  The time is right for us to develop a regional strategy for this tremendous project,” says Hants RDA Executive Director Claude O’Hara.

The anticipated benefits would see the Canadian economy grow by an estimated $1.5 billion, and potentially create 11,500 jobs in Nova Scotia. This luncheon is a chance to learn more about what this exciting project could potentially bring to our region.

Guest Speaker:             Mike Roberts, VP Corporate Development, Irving Shipbuilding

Mr. Roberts will present the Irving Shipbuilding strategy to Windsor/Hantsport business, political and community leaders and in return the Hants RDA will share with Mr. Roberts the advantages this region offers to companies bidding on contracts as part of the overall procurement.
