Making Newcomers Feel Welcome

Newcomer navigators are in the business of making people happy – free of charge.
 
The Hants RDA’s attractor, Viorica Sporea, says the program is working.
 
“They are mainly coming here to enjoy a rural lifestyle, with plenty of space, strong community spirit, easy access to amenities and jobs,” she said.
 
“Over the past 18 months we have attracted 45 people, part of them have already moved here, part of them will arrive next year. And, we have a large number of people that are going through the assessment stages, that, at least part of them, will become, sooner or later, residents of the area.”
 
As someone who has been in their shoes, Sporea urges new residents to reach out before shipping out.
 
“There are many new residents that have come here on their own and these are the people we are not aware of and, very likely, they are also not aware of us and that we could… help them save on the headaches and the frustrations of the beginnings in a new place.”
